Composition and characteristics of OcuGas SF6:
OcuGas SF6 contains the colorless and odor-less gas sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) which is chemically and physiologically inert. OcuGas SF6 is provided as a kit consisting of two sets: a gas reservoir (set 1) and a mixing device (set 2). The complete kit allows an easy, quick and safe handling.
Initial purity of SF6: 4.5 Decimal fraction (equal to 99.995% purity). OcuGas SF6 is used after a complete vitrectomy.

- CAS number 2551-62-4.
- Density (20°C, 1 bar) 6,07 kg/m3.
- Density ratio to air: 5,125.
OcuGas SF6:
- Single use – 100% SF6 ready for mixing.
- Non-pressurized gas container.
- Exterior sterility for optimized ease of use (USP to OcuGas range).
- Flexibility to create gas-air combination according to requirements of surgery.
Indications for use
OcuGas SF6 is used as a mid-term tamponade after operative treatment of severe retinal detachment, particularly for:
- Retinal detachments with giant tears.
- Retinal detachments without proliferation.
- Retinal detachments in case of proliferative diabetic retinopathy (pdr).
- Traumatic retinal detachments.
- Macular holes.
- Macular edema
